Gary Embury is an Artist, Senior Lecturer, and Editor-In-Chief of reportager.org, an online journal showcasing and initiating reportage drawing.
As Founder of Reportager Embury conceived and curated the International ‘Reportager’ Drawing Award and subsequently co-authored the book
Reportage Illustration, Visual Journalism with Mario Minichiello published by Bloomsbury.

Gary has produced Images for clients including The Saturday Times, Telegraph, The Guardian, New Scientist, Radio Times, Aardman Animation, Penguin Books, British Telecom, and Barclays Bank, amongst many other Editorial, Publishing, and Advertising clients. He was awarded Gold in the AOI Illustration awards in 2006 and invited to discuss the future of illustration  in the digital age for Radio 4's Front Row program hosted by Kirsty Lang. Embury has given talks and presented papers at institutions and conferences internationally including the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Royal College of Art, and the Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration.

In 2022 he exhibited a series of drawings at Saatchi Gallery as part of a group exhibition, ‘The Healing Arts’. Gary is currently working on several drawing-related projects and publications and is an artist in residence at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. He is one of the founding members of the UWE BCU Drawing Research Group organising  exhibitions and activities which explore and scrutinise drawing practice. The most recent a  symposium and Exhibition at Birmingham school of Art, titled, ‘What is Drawing Research? in November 2023.
